Japanese Language Culture Club

Timeline: 2022–2023

Role: Lead Designer

Output: Brand Identity, Brand Strategy

The Japanese Language Culture Club is an NYC-based non-profit dedicated to creating an inclusive space for youth and young adults, from Japanese natives to anyone curious about Japan, to connect over a shared passion for the language and culture.

Inspired by Kaomoji (the Japanese pop culture of using text characters to form emoticons), the logo uses the club's initials to create a stylized smiling face. The overall branding channels a friendly, youthful, and energetic vibe designed to bring this next generation of the community together and welcome new members.

Members can create personalized avatars using the smiling face from the logo. This not only strengthens their connection with the club but also subtly promotes brand recognition as the avatars are shared and used more widely.
